PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
21ST CENTURY GROUP, Owings Mills, MD - Contract 2011-Present

Deputy Project Lead, Postal Automation R&D High Speed Feeder 2011-Present
Lead design development of automation equipment for USPS.
•Lead material acquisition effort for $1 million automation project, including oversight of all fabricated, COTS and custom cables.
•Lead assembly, wiring, alignment, power-up, integration, commissioning, and installation of High Speed Feeder.
•Provide on-site and phone support for three live mail sites across five machines (10 Feeders). Common support tasks: Advising USPS personnel with troubleshooting, Removal/Replacement of failed parts, in-situ machine modification for testing of new designs.
•Participated in 1st prototype installation. Lead 2nd and 3rd installs. Each install required intensive re-wiring as well as on-site modification of existing aluminum and steel parts.
•Supported test operations for end stage architecture mock-up for preliminary Live Site experimentation.
•Fabricate small machine parts for support of two separate architecture test benches.

B/E AEROSPACE, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT GROUP, Winston-Salem, NC 2010-2011

Product Design Engineer, New Seating Products R&D 2010-2011
Design new seat products within constraints set by FAA requirements, Marketing group and upper management.
•Completed 1st iteration Short-Haul Business Class seat leg rest design based around a four-bar linkage motion scheme in a three month effort. Accelerated design cycle to incorporate a 2nd iteration. Completed assembly with little guidance in the plant’s machine shop.
•Developed recline motion and structural architecture for a new concept Premium Economy Seat product. Rapidly developed competing motions with 2D layouts and developed 3D design. Tested motion with fabricated wood parts and COTS cams for demonstration with VP level management.

MICHAEL BRIAN SHARMA PAGE 2
NORTHROP GRUMMAN CORPORATION, ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS, Baltimore, MD 2006-2010

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Feeder R&D (Flats Sequencing System) 2009-2010
Manage design, drafting, build, and test efforts. Work with every facet of the design team: model design and drafting; mechanical, electrical, and software integration; material procurement and assembly; communication within team; and management of product access.
•Constructed and assembled four subsystem stand-alone test benches to demonstrate functionality and evaluate inclusion of final system architecture.
•Designed and assembled servo actuated three-position vacuum valve to support demonstration of a proof-of-concept double separator. Developed alternate design based on a lower cost pneumatic actuator.
Mechanical Engineer, Bulk Flats Processing 2008-2009
Managed development of the Pallet Unloader subsystem. Responsible for the integration of this system with the overall BFP system, a $50 + million project.
•Developed several system level architecture designs in a 2-D AutoCAD layout environment to support direction of the R&D project. Several options were presented in an on-going fashion to identify opportunities to support greater function or reduce cost or system footprint.
•Constructed workspace guarding to evaluate a robotic arm unloader design.
Tool Designer and Structural Analyst, Cobra Judy Replacement (CJR) 2006-2008
Designed and managed the CJR Multiple Sub Array Antenna assembly tool kit, consisting of approximately 30 tools ranging in complexity.
•Designed a crane-assisted installation tool for an 800 lbs. Followed tool assembly into test environment and completed successful design iteration/modification after initial test in a highly visible and time compressed situation.
•Wrote work instructions and designed various hand tools to support intricate antenna assembly.
Mechanical Engineer, CG(X) 2007-2008
Delivered a functional Power and Logic distribution assembly and a Flexible cable assembly.
•Developed rapid concept generation through CAD and PowerPoint to pr...
